Men's Lacrosse Team Wins Double-Overtime Thriller Over Air Force
Jeff Speed nets game-winner in 5-4 triumph over the Falcons
March 28, 2002 Senior midfielder Jeff Speed fired home at the game-winning goal with 2:04 elapsed in the second overtime, sending the Quinnipiac men's lacrosse team to a 5-4 victory over Air Force. The win was the second straight for QU and helped to level out its mark at 3-3. After a scoreless first frame, Quinnipiac opened the scoring with three consecutive goals from Joe Baglio, Ryan Petrowsky and John Giordano. Mariner's second goal of the game just over three minutes into the fourth quarter tied the score at 4-4. Both teams had extra man opportunities in overtime. Ironically, Speed's game-winner came as the Falcons were in the midst of an EMO. T.J. Barnett stopped 10 shots to earn the win for Quinnipiac. William Arnold turned away 18 shots for Air Force. The loss was the first one-goal victory for QU this year. It lost its previous three one-goal games to Ohio State, Dartmouth and Stony Brook. Quinnipiac returns to action on Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. for a home game against Albany. |
