Mike Stottler scored four goals and Andy Pelletier netted a goal and dished out four assists to lead the Quinnipiac men's lacrosse team to its first America East Conference victory, 18-8 over the Hartford Hawks on 'Senior Day' on Saturday in Hamden, Conn. Before the game Quinnipiac, honored its five seniors: Pelletier, Matt Lindberg, Joe Prota, Mike Albano and Todd Pagel.
After Hartford got the scoring started 13:20 into the first quarter, the Bobcats answered with consecutive goals by Albano and Eddie Morley to take a 2-1 advantage. Hartford tied the game up with on a goal by Matt Holman. However, the Bobcats responded with goals by Pelletier and Josh Murray to take a 4-2 lead with 4:00 to go in the first frame.
Hartford got to within a goal at 4-3, on Garett Kikot's tally with 1:58 to go in the first. Quinnipiac answered by scoring five straight goals, including two by Eric Trama and one each by Stottler, Sean McBride and Leigh DiPace to build a commanding 9-3 lead with 2:00 to go in the first half.
Hartford scored the game's next two goals to make it a four goal game at 9-5 with 13:32 to go in the third quarter. Quinnipiac countered by netting six of the games next seven goals to go ahead 15-6 with 14:02 to go in the game. Stottler (two goals), Matt Lindberg, Morley, Brian Vaccaro and Murray all tallied goals for the Bobcats during the scoring run.
The Hawks scored two more goals, one by Mark Ross and the other by Brandon Herbst to make the score 15-8, Quinnipiac, with 11:32 to go in the game. However, Quinnipiac scored the game's final three goals to clinch the 18-8 victory.
Pelletier (one goal and four assists) led Quinnipiac with five points, while Murray (two goals and two assists) and Stottler (4 goals) each tallied four points. Prota made eight saves to earn the victory in goal for the Bobcats.
Kikot had two goals and two assists to lead the Hawks and Karem made 13 saves in net.
With the victory the Bobcats improve to 2-10 (1-4 America East) this season, while the Hawks drop to 0-13 (0-6 America East). Quinnipiac will play its final game of the regular season when it travels to Stony Brook, NY to take on the Stony Brook Seawolves on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
