Quinnipiac vs. Holy Cross

The Game Story:
Hamden, Ct.- The Quinnipiac Men's Lacrosse team wins their final game of the season in style. The game was not only the final game of the season but a farewell to five outstanding seniors. Regardless of the rainy playing conditions the Bobcats came out on top over the Holy Cross Crusaders, 12-10.

Holy Cross took the lead only 32 seconds into the game with a goal from Shaun McGowan (Garden City, N.Y.). Quinnipiac answered back with 12:31 remaining in the first quarter when Andy Pelletier (South Windsor, Conn.) fed Leigh DiPace (Acton, Mass.) a great ball. Two minutes later the Crusaders put themselves back in the lead when John O'Sullivan (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) scored.

The Bobcats then scored three goals within two minutes to take the lead, 4-2. The first of the three goals was scored by Chip Schmidt (West Islip, N.Y.) and assisted by John Giordano (New City, N.Y.). The second was an unassisted goal by Josh Murray (Hamden, Conn.). The final goal of the quarter for the Bobcats was scored by Giordano and assisted by Schmidt. With 44 seconds remaining the Crusaders cut the lead with a goal from Paul Washington (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.).

With 13:07 remaining in the second quarter McGowan tied it up for Holy Cross. Quinnipiac took the lead again to end the half 5-4 with a goal from Giordano, unassisted. Quinnipiac scored the lone goal in the third quarter with 1:40 remaining. Murray found John Delaney (Cheshire, Conn.) who netted the goal for the Bobcats. Quinnipiac jumped into the fourth quarter with a goal from DiPace only 15 seconds in. Less than two minutes later Murray scored with an assist from Pelletier. The Crusaders answered back with a goal at 12:13 from David Williams (Northport, N.Y.). Patrick McCurdy (Bridgewaters, N.Y.) tallied another goal for Holy Cross two minutes later. Schmidt tallied his third goal of the game with 9:37 remaining, with an assist from Giordano to bring the Bobcats to 10-6.

Only minutes later O'Sullivan scored his second of four goals for the afternoon, keeping the Crusaders in competition. With 2:40 remaining in the game, Pelletier found the back of the net for the Bobcats. Less than two minutes later, Eric Trama (Lynbrook, N.Y.) brought Quinnipiac to 12, with an assist from Schmidt. The Crusaders did not back down as they tallied three more goals within the last minute of play. Two of the goals were scored by O'Sullivan and the other was from Billy Klotz (Derry, N.H.). Quinnipiac ended their season with a victory.

Brian Hodgdon (Pittstown, N.J.) made nine saves for the Crusaders today. T.J. Barnett (Bayshore, N.Y.) made 11 saves for the Bobcats this afternoon while fellow senior Andy Castagnola (Cheshire, Conn.) made one save in the final minutes of play.
