Quinnipiac vs. Ohio State

The Game Story:
Shaun Lyons scored three goals and Anthony Gilardi netted a goal and had three assists to lead the Ohio State Buckeyes to a 14-7 victory over the Quinnipiac Bobcats in men's lacrosse on Saturday night in New Haven, Conn. The loss drops the Bobcats record to 1-3 this season, while the Buckeyes improve to 3-2.

Ohio State got on the scoreboard first at the 13:01 mark of the first quarter thanks to a goal by Kyle Olson. The Bobcats responded on a goal by Jon D'Ascoli to tie the score at one with 5:33 remaining in the first frame.

The score remained tied until 11:27 into the second quarter, when the Buckeyes scored the first of nine straight goals. The outburst gave Ohio State a 10-1 lead with 8:53 to go in the third quarter. Quinnipiac broke the scoring streak with 6:21 to go in the third, when Eric Trama took a feed from Eddie Morley and fired a shot past OSU goalie Tony Russo to make it 10-2, Ohio State. The Buckeyes scored two more goals to move ahead 12-2. Quinnipiac closed out the third period scoring on a goal by Eddie Morley. The marker was assisted by Mike Hennessey and made the score 12-3 heading into the final frame.

Ohio State scored the fourth period's first two goals to take a 14-3 lead with 12:11 to go in regulation. However, the Bobcats refused to quit and scored the games final four goals to make the final score 14-7, OSU.

Morley led Quinnipiac with two goals and two assists, while Trama (two goals), Mike Stottler (one goal and one assist) and Andy Pelletier (one goal and one assist), each had two points for the Bobcats. Nine Buckeyes scored goals, including three by Lyons and two each by Tom Randisi and Kyle Olson.

Joe Prota played well in between the pipes for the Bobcats by making 12 saves. Russo stopped eight shots to collect the victory.

Quinnipiac will be in action next when it hosts Dartmouth on Tuesday, March 23, at 3:00 p.m. in Hamden, Conn.
