HAMDEN, Conn. - The University of Vermont men's lacrosse team is 1-0 in
America East play after a 5-4 come-from-behind win over Quinnipiac Sunday.
The Catamounts, 4-4 overall and tied for fifth nationally in goals allowed,
continued their outstanding defensive play, limiting the Bobcats to just
four goals to lower their team goals-against average to 6.38 goals a game.
Vermont overcame a 4-3 deficit after three quarters, getting two goals in
the final frame from Moses and freshman Matt Taylor (Butler, Md.) to post
the win. Taylor had the game-winner with 3:56 remaining on an assist from
fellow freshman Mike Maher (Huntington Station, N.Y.).
Senior Doug Moses (Marietta, N.Y.) led the way for Vermont with two goals,
while Maher (Huntington Station, N.Y.) had a goal and an assist. Senior Gar
Smith (Sudbury, Mass.) and Taylor (Butler, Md.) also scored for the
Catamounts.
Michael Gabel, among the nation's top goalies this season, had 14 saves for
the Catamounts, who have won three straight, while T.J. Barnett had 13 for
Quinnipiac.
Vermont is scheduled to host Hartford on Wednesday at Centennial Field.
Game time is 3:30pm.
