April 17, 2004
The Game Story:
PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- Greg Havalchak had 21 saves and Delby Powless scored four goals as No. 15-ranked Rutgers stunned No. 4 Syracuse, 14-10, at Yurcak Field. It was the second straight year that the Scarlet Knights defeated the Orangemen.

Syracuse (8-2) jumped out to a 3-1 lead, but Rutgers came back in the first quarter to take over with a 5-3 score. By the end of the second period, the Scarlet Knights built a 10-5 advantage. Powless netted three of his goals during the run.

Rutgers took a seven-goal lead (its largest lead of the day) at 7:52 of the third quarter when Brett Mooney finished a pass from Tim White. The score gave Rutgers a 12-5 lead.

The Orangemen chipped away in the third quarter. They tallied three-straight goals to inch back to within, 12-8, with 1:30 remaining in the period. Michael Powell, Brian Crockett and Kevin Dougherty each scored.

Havalchak stopped several point-blank shots in the fourth quarter as Syracuse desperately tried to find the back of the net. Powell and Sean Lindsay were the only players who were able to sneak shots past the Rutgers sophomore, who also came up big last year in the Scarlet Knight's 12-11 overtime win at the Carrier Dome.

RU improved its season record to 7-3. The Orangemen had their five-game winning streak halted and will try to bounce back on April 24 against Albany at the Carrier Dome.
