| Fairfield, CT - Junior midfielder Chris Mucciolo scored four goals to lead the Brown men's lacrosse team to a 10-5 season opening victory over Sacred Heart.
Senior tri-captain Charles Towers opened the game with two goals on passes from Kyle Wailes, and, following a Sacred Heart goal, junior Chazz Woodson lifted the Bears to a 3-1 lead. But the Pioneers rallied behind two goals by Christian Lynch to tie the game, 3-3. That's when Mucciolo took over. Mucciolo's goal with 1:41 remaining in the second quarter gave the Bears a 4-3 lead at the half. Mucciolo scored the first goal of the second half and junior Britton Derkac added his first goal of the season with 11:53 left in the quarter to extend Brown's lead to 7-3. Sacred Heart narrowed the margin to 7-4, but freshman David Madeira and Mucciolo put the game out of reach for the Bears with two quick goals, giving Brown a 9-4 advantage. After Mucciolo's fourth goal, senior tri-captain Rich Touhey scored his first goal of the season for the final margin of victory. Senior All-American Mike Levin registered 16 saves in goal for the Bears |
