| FAIRFIELD, CT - Sophomore Timmy Katz (Freehold, NY) scored a career-high six goals to help the Sacred Heart University men's lacrosse team erase an 8-3 halftime deficit and come back to beat the University of Hartford 11-10 on a rainy Saturday afternoon. Hartford, 0-4, jumped out to a 5-0 lead after one quarter of play with five different players scoring goals. Leif Abrahamson scored with 8:08 left and Chris Griffin followed nine seconds later to make it 2-0. Brian Tilley added a man-up goal with 3:50 to go, and Justin Bearse made it 4-0 just :32 later. Tom Harris scored the final goal of the period with 2:33 left. The Pioneers, 3-0, finally got on the board early in the second quarter thanks to a Dan Casciano tally. Devin O'Brien answered for the Hawks with 10:08 left, but Katz scored his first of the game just 28 second later to cut the Hartford lead to 6-2. Nick Russo scored on a pass from Bobby Rushton with 6:18 left in the half to get the Pioneers within 6-3. However, Abrahamson and Michael Cudmore scored within :48 of each other to give Hartford an 8-3 lead at intermission. Harris scored early in the third quarter to push the Hartford lead to 9-3, but the rest of the quarter - and half - was all Pioneers. SHU scored six times in the third, four of them coming off the stick of Katz, to tie the game at 9-9. Rushton gave the Pioneers the lead with his second goal of the game 2:10 into the fourth quarter. Katz made it 11-9 with an unassisted goal with 3:40 left in the game. Brian Tilley got one back for the Hawks with 1:43 to play, but they would get just one more shot the rest of the way. Sophomore Zack Frank recovered from a slow start to make 16 saves in net for the Pioneers. Jon McMahon made 16 in the losing effort for Hartford. |
