|The Game Story:|
|DELRAY BEACH, FL (March 10, 2005) - Sacred Heart junior captain Matthew Robideau (Massena, NY) collected seven points on three goals and four assists to lead the Pioneer men's lacrosse team to a commanding 18-8 win over Robert Morris in Delray Beach, Florida Thursday night. The Pioneers scored 18 times and was four-of-six man-up to record their second win on the year. The Colonials remained winless at 0-4.|
"Great to see Matt step up at the times when we need it," stated head coach Tom Mariano. "A solid win, keeps the momentum from the week going heading into the Manhattan game. Our goal is to try and get better each day as we move forward."
The SHU offense got on the board quickly off the stick of sophomore Peter Greco (Hamburg, NY) on a feed from Robideau just 51 seconds in. The Pioneers struck again right off the face off as senior Black Reardon (St. Michael, MN) won the draw and fed teammate Kiel Adams (Rome, NY) for the score. From there, SHU stalled, going scoreless until the 19 second mark when Robideau lit up the scoreboard for the first time.
Robert Morris got on the board two minutes into the second quarter on an unassisted score by freshman Brendan Young. Robideau answered with his second on a feed from Greco at the 13:10 mark. A Robert Morris goal by freshman Michael Fleming cut the SHU lead to 4-2 at the 10-minute mark but markers by freshman Billy Fuchs (Merrick, NY) and Robideau gave the Pioneers a 6-2 advantage at the break.
Sacred Heart came out on fire to start the second half as sophomore Rory Morse (E. Falmouth, MA) scored three-straight goals to five the Pioneers a 9-6 lead at the 11:56 mark. Robert Morris would answer as the Colonial offense rang off four-straight while holding the Pioneers scoreless for over seven minutes.
RMU freshman Andrew Watt started the run with back-to-back goals, the first a man-up tally. Junior Eric DeSalvatore scored to make it 9-5 on a feed from Watt and freshman Todd Greenhalgh followed with a man-up goal at 7:29 to cut to within three.
That would be as close as the Colonials could get. SHU ended the drought with a score from senior Dana White (Gorham, ME) and a man-up goal from freshman Ryan Heath (Baldwinsville, NY) to lead 11-6 at the end of three.
Adams scored his third of the day to open the fourth quarter and after a pair of Robert Morris goals, the Pioneers closed the game with four-straight on the way to victory.
In goal, SHU's Thomas Hind (Farmingdale, NY) mad four saves in earning the win while freshman Ricardo Vargas (Falls Church, VA) made his first appearance of the season in the fourth quarter and registered a stop. RMU's Jason Dockum made 12 saves in taking the loss.
In addition to Robideau's seven points, Adams finished with three scores and an assist. Greco scored twice and added an assist while Fuchs had a goal and two helpers.
Watt led the Colonials with three goals and an assist while DeSalvatore scored twice. Brendan Young and Greenhalgh each had a goal and an assist.
The Pioneers close their Florida trip this Sunday, March 13th when they take on Manhattan College at 11:00 am.
