Siena vs. Canisius

The Game Story:
LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - The Siena men's lacrosse team fell to Canisius College 7-5, on a windy afternoon at Siena Field. The loss is the Saints third in a row and now drops the team 2-10 and 1-5 conference record. The win gives Canisius a 4-5 overall record and a .500 league record at 3-3.

The Griffins jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter when Dan Carey scored the games first goal off an assist from teammate Brad Favero to make the score 1-0. Siena bounced back to tie the game when junior attack Matt Walsh scored off a sharp assist from Greg Powell.

The second quarter was all Canisius, Carey scored twice for the Griffs, first off an assist from Kevin Ross at the 9:11 mark and off another assist from Michael Blocho with 3:52 remaining in the half to give the team a 3-1 lead. The two defenses stepped up at the end of the first half by not allowing any more damage to be done, making the score at halftime 3-1 in the Golden Griffins favor.

At the start of the third quarter Stephen Ola and Kevin Ross scored to cap off a 4-0 run for the Griffs. Ross assisted Ola's goal while the second of the two was unassisted. The Saints battled back when Powell assisted both Walsh and junior attack man Phillip Ferrara, slicing the deficit to two. The Blue and Gold responded as junior Alex Khalil tacked on a goal off an assist from Reed Peterson, making the score, 6-3. With just two minutes left to play in the period, Walsh brought the Saints closer drilling one pass Griffs goalie to bring the Saints within two, 6-4.

Carey scored his fourth goal of the game off an assist from Matt Hajek, giving his team the lead 7-4. With just 45 seconds remaining in the game, Walsh netted the games final goal claiming his 17th goal of the season, as the Saints dropped their third game in a row.





Junior Matt Schuster won 6-of-11 face offs and scooped a team-high four groundballs. The Griffs held a slight advantage in picking up 32-to-28.

Between the pipes, goalie John Bamford recorded nine saves for the Saints while Angus Dineley stopped 10 for the Griffs.

The Saints next face Robert Morris at home on Sunday April 24th. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
