The Game Story:
LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - The Siena men's lacrosse team (2-5, 2-0) earned its second conference win of the season Saturday afternoon, defeating conference foe VMI (1-6, 0-3) 8-5 on a rain-soaked Siena field.

The Saints were led offensively by the freshmen duo of Chris Zarins and Matt Girsh, who each registered two goals in the victory. Zarins also tallied a career-high, four assists in the game. Freshmen, Kenny Mazzone and Jake Kalata chipped in a goal apiece, while junior Matt Donovan and senior Philip Ferrara rounded out the Siena scoring on the day.

The Saints jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first period when Ferrara found net off a Mazzone assist at the 4:22 mark. VMI retaliated in the second period when senior David Trimble shot the ball past Siena goalie David Jalette to notch the game at 1-1. The Saints closed out the first half of play with a 2-1 lead following an unassisted goal by Zarins at 6:23 mark.

Following an early VMI goal in the third period by senior Robert Trimble, the Saints scored six unanswered goals highlighted by two Girsh goals and Zarins' four assists.

The Keydets rallied late in the fourth period when senior Will Collier cut the deficit to 8-3 on an unassisted goal with 5:51 remaining. VMI tacked on two additional goals by David Trimble at the 4:19 mark, followed by a Robert Trimble score at the 2:40 mark. The Keydets fell short of completing a comeback, as the Saints ran out the clock to capture a three-goal victory.


Jalette recorded 14 saves in goal for Siena, while counterpart John Collier nabbed 16 saves for the Keydets. Statistically, the Saints were 12-for-15 on face-off opportunities, while scooping 50 groundballs, compared to the Keydets' mark of 34.

Next up for the Saints are the Hartford Hawks, who will travel to Loudonville on Tuesday for a 3:30 start at Siena Field.
