Siena vs. Wagner
March 29, 2003
The Game Story:
The Siena College men's lacrosse team fell to Wagner College 10-8 in MAAC action tonight at Union College in Schenectady, N.Y. With the loss the Saints are now 1-5 overall and 1-2 in the league. Wagner captured their first win of the season with the victory and is now 1-5 overall and 1-3 in conference play.

Siena jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the first quarter. The Green and Gold then hammered in two more goals early in the second for a 5-1 lead with 10:15 remaining on the clock. Wagner fought back, however, as freshman Kevin Zulauf found the back of the net twice in the last 44 seconds following a Sea Hawk tally at the 4:46 mark to cut the Saint lead to just two at halftime with a 5-4 score.

The Sea Hawks carried their momentum into the third quarter and rattled off four goals while holding the Saints scoreless to take an 8-5 advantage into the final quarter. Siena finally got back on the board on a goal by junior Eric Hungershafer and followed that effort with a goal some three minutes later as Matt Walsh had his second tally of the night to pull to within one at 8-7 with 9:14 remaining. But Wagner added a pair of insurance goals and walked away with the win despite a late tally by Siena with 56 seconds on the clock.

Walsh and Dan Wolpert led Siena, netting two goals apiece, while Eric Morrissey had all four assists for the Saints.

Zulauf finished the evening with three goals for Wagner while Bryan Gallagher and Tom Marchetti each had two.

John Bamford made 11 saves in the cage for Siena while Chris Sochacki had nine stops for Wagner.

Siena returns to action on Wednesday, March 2 when they host Holy Cross.
