The Game Story:
LSOM, Pa. - The men's lacrosse team dropped a 13-1 matchup to Hofstra in the HEADstrong Foundation'sTM first annual Relentless Cup at Ridley High School's Phil Marion Field on Saturday evening. With the loss, the Hawks stand at 5-7 overall and 1-3 in Colonial Athletic Association action.

Hofstra (7-4, 2-2 CAA) got on the board early as the Pride's Torin Varn scored his first of four goals on the evening at the 12:29 mark of the opening period.

Saint Joseph's responded as sophomore attack Matthew Sarcona dished a pass to sophomore midfielder Michael Dougherty, who scored his 12th goal of the season with 4:17 remaining in the first to tie to score, 1-1.

From there, Hofstra would go on a 12-0 run that spanned the rest of the game, exploding for six of those goals in the second period alone.

Dougherty landed all five of his shots on goal for the Hawks while sophomore defender Kevin Barrow picked up three ground balls and caused two turnovers. Junior midfielder Will Abbott picked up three ground balls and went 8-of-15 (.533) from the face-off.

Sophomore goalkeeper Dustin Keen (5-7, 1-3 CAA) made 15 saves in a complete 60-minute effort.

For the game, Hofstra held advantages in shots (39-25) and ground balls (26-14) and registered 14 more shots on goal than the Hawks (28-14).





Saint Joseph's will return to CAA action next Saturday, April 13 against Delaware. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Finnesey Field.
