The Game Story:
PHILADELPHIA (03/15/03) - Senior Chris Spay ignited a run of 12 unanswered goals, scoring four of his game-high five during the surge, to power the Saint Joseph's men's lacrosse team to a 19-9 victory over Marist on Finnesey Field. The win was the third straight for the Hawks, who remained unblemished in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play and improved to 3-4 overall. The Red Foxes dropped to 0-5, 0-1 in the MAAC.

St. Joe's jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, but Marist scored five-straight goals to take a 5-3 advantage late in the second quarter.

Spay then tallied his second goal of the game with 1:46 to play before intermission to make it a one-goal game at the break, 5-4.

The late tally lifted the Hawks and they came out in the second half on fire. SJU blitzed Marist for eight goals in the third quarter to turn a one-goal deficit into a 12-5 lead.

The Hawks added three more goals, including a pair in the opening :15 seconds of the fourth quarter, to make it 12 unanswered and put SJU comfortably on top, 15-5. MC rallied with a pair of goals in a span of :21 seconds midway through the final quarter. SJU then answered the call with four of its own to go on top 19-7. The Foxes added a pair of late goals to close out the scoring.

Spay finished with five goals and one assist to lead the Crimson and Gray and fellow senior Alex Heidenberger added five markers. Also tallying goals for the Hawks were juniors Matt Mueller (3) and Brian Mullan (1), sophomore Kevin McGrann (2), and freshman Keegan Wilkinson (2) and Chris Ortel (1). Junior Josh Ben-Eliyahu paced Marist with three goals. Junior Brian Biele and freshman Billy Duerr each netted two goals.

Saint Joseph's takes a break from MAAC play this week, traveling up the Main Line for a Wednesday evening tilt at Villanova. SJU returnes to league action at Siena next Saturday.
