Saint Joseph's vs. Navy

The Game Story:
PHILADELPHIA - Sixth-ranked Navy (1-0) scored three times in a 48 second span to close out the first half and break-open a close game, as the Midshipmen downed Saint Joseph's (0-2) on Finnesey Field, 12-2. Sophomore Steve Varga and freshman Pat Williams netted goals for the Hawks.

After falling behind in the first quarter, SJU trailed by one, 2-1, after netting the opening goal of the second period. Williams scored the goal off an assist from Mike O'Neill.

Navy would answer the Hawks on sophomore Nick Mirabito's goal at the 9:20 mark of the second quarter. His tally was the first of eight straight by the USNA in the second and third quarter to seize control of the game. The knockout blow came when teh Midshipman scored three times in the final 48 seconds of the opening half.

Trailing 10-1, the Hawks received a mun-up goal from Varga with just 48 seconds left in the third quarter.

Navy scored the only goals of the final quarter to come away with the 12-2 win.

Navy held an edge across the board, outshooting SJU 35-17, picking up 31 groundballs to 22 for SJU and winning nine of 17 face-offs. The Middies were 1-3 on the extra-man, while SJU was 1-4.

Navy's Matt RUssell and Colin Finnegan combined for 11 saves, while SJU's Eric Hotaling made 10 stops in goal.

The Hawks return to the field on Saturday, February 25 when SJU plays host to Vermont at 4:00 PM.

Navy took the early lead netting a pair of first quarter goals. Sophomores Nick Mirabito and Matt Guido registered the goals.
