The Game Story:
Stony Brook, N.Y. - Freshman Bo Tripodi scored five goals and added an assist to power the Stony Brook men's lacrosse team to an impressive 14-9 win over Delaware in the season opener on Saturday. It was Stony Brook's first win in its home opener since 1998 and gave first-year head coach Lars Tiffany a win in his debut on the SB sideline.

After Bobby West scored a man-down goal to give Delaware a 1-0 lead at 9:07 of the first quarter, Stony Brook would take control of the game by scoring the next five goals. Sean Chamberlain evened the game 21 seconds later on a man-up tally and then Jason Cappadoro and Tripodi closed the first quarter scoring to stake the Seawolves to a 3-1 lead. Tripodi picked up where he left off at 12:14 of the second quarter, finishing a nifty pass from freshman Rhys Duch and Larry Cerasi capped the 5-0 run on an assist from Adam Marksberry which gave the home team a 5-1 lead with 10:06 to go in the half.

Delaware's Dave Powers cut the lead to 5-2 on a man-up goal but Tripodi and Cerasi would strike again five minutes apart to put SB up 7-2. Joe Trentzsch converted a pass from John Carrozza with 2:14 remaining in the half to slice SB's lead to 7-3 at the half.

The Seawolves put the game away early in the second half, scoring four goals in the first 3:49 of the third quarter. Cappadoro scored 10 seconds into the half following a face-off win from Michael Poch. Chamberlain then scored twice on back-to-back man-up opportunites and Tripodi followed with his fourth of the game and the Seawolves would never look back.

Joe Trentzsch led the way for Delaware (2-1) with three goals while goalie Chris Collins made 15 saves in the loss.

For Stony Brook, Chamberlain finished with three goals and Marksberry talled a goal and three assists. Jason Cappadoro equalled his career high for points in a game with two goals and three assists. Brendan Callahan made 11 saves to earn the win.

Stony Brook is back in action next Saturday when it hosts Wagner.
