STONY BROOK, NY - Thomas Hajek (St. Catharines, ONT) scored three goals but
the Catamount men's lacrosse team fell, 12-8, to Stony Brook in their
America East opener Saturday.
Hajek opened the game with a goal at 12:40 of the first quarter with an
assist going to Phil McKnight (Baltimore, MD). But Stony Brook, 5-3 overall
and 3-1 and in first place in the conference, ran off five straight before
Hajek scored again late in the quarter to make it 5-2 after one.
Goals early in the second quarter by Hajek and RJ Harrison (Columbus, OH)
got the Catamounts to within one, but the Sea Wolves took a 9-5 lead at the
half and hung on for the win.
Harrison finished with two goals and an assist, while McKnight went 1-1-2.
Mark Prior (Syracuse, NY/Henninger) also scored for the Cats, 3-5 overall
and 0-1 in America East play.
Stony Brook's Kevin Pall became the school's all-time leading goal scorer,
recording three in the game to give him 29 this season and 113 in his
career. Pall leads the nation in goals.
In net, Vermont's Mike Gabel (Falmouth, MA/Falmouth) made 19 saves, while
Stony Brook's Steve Armsworthy stopped nine.
Vermont next plays at Hartford next Saturday at 1:00pm.
