LaFlare Leads Men's Lacrosse Past Binghamton 9-4

Junior attackman tallies six points in Stony Brook win

Stony Brook, N.Y. - George LaFlare registered two goals and a career-high four assists to lead Stony Brook to a 9-4 win over Binghamton in America East lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon. The win was the first of the year for Stony Brook which improved to 1-2, 1-0 in conference play while the Bearcats slipped to 1-3, 0-1.

Michael Poch got the ball rolling for the Seawolves in the first quarter with his first collegiate goal off a feed from LaFlare at the 8:23 mark. It was the first of seven straight goals for Stony Brook over the first 35 minutes of the game. Rookie Adam Markberry tallied his first goal in a Seawolf uniform at 5:21 of the first quarter before LaFlare extended the advantage to 3-0 at 9:52 of the second.

LaFlare then set up three-straight tallies, two to Kevin Shea and the final one to freshman Jason Cappadoro to send Stony Brook into halftime with a commanding 6-0 lead. LaFlare then added his second goal of the game at the 10:00 mark of the third before Binghamton's Joe Conner put the Bearcats on the scoreboard with 1:35 remaining in the quarter. BU struck again only 16 seconds later on a tally from Scott Mitchell.

Cappadoro added a pair of goals in the fourth quarter to seal the win for Stony Brook. He finished with his second hat trick in three games and now leads the team in scoring with six goals.

LaFlare recorded his best game in a Seawolf uniform with six points. Jeff Slater made 11 saves in goal to earn his first win of the season. Binghamton's Adam Skiadas stopped six shots in the loss.

Stony Brook is back in action on Saturday when it plays host to the No. 3 Maryland Terrapins. Face-off is 1 p.m.
