March 13, 2012
The Game Story:
Stony Brook, N.Y. - Despite a career-high three goals from senior Russ Bonanno (Seaford, N.Y.) and a season-high 14 saves from junior Sean Brady (Huntington Bay, N.Y.), St. John's (3-2) topped Stony Brook (1-4), 11-9, Tuesday evening at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium. St. John's Kieran McArdle led all players with four goals.

Juniors Jeff Tundo (Orchard Park, N.Y.) and Nick Watson (Manchester, England) added two goals apiece.

"We're still working through some early season stuff, but I thought we played real hard," coach Jim Nagle said. "If we work togther and commit to the fundamentals, I'm real confident in our success."

The first half went back and forth as the game featured four ties. Stony Brook never led until Tundo's unassisted goal at 2:29 of the second quarter made it 5-4.

Bonanno's third goal of the game made it 7-6, the Seawolves final lead of the contest.

McArdle and Terence Leach scored to give St. John's its first lead, 8-7, since 4-3 with 8:46 left in the second quarter. Tundo's unassisted goal tied the game at eight, but the Red Storm answered with two straight goals. Senior Robbie Campbell (Delta, British Columbia) cut the deficit to 10-9, but McArdle answered 1:30 later with the final goal of the night.

Watson's second goal of the game was one of the better ones of the season. He intercepted St. John's goalie Jeff Lowman's clear attempt and eluded two defenders before scoring from about 20 yards out.

Brady made seven saves in each half. Junior JJ Laforet (Georgetown, Ontario) enjoyed his best game at the 'X', winning nine face-offs.
