Syracuse vs. Canisius
March 29, 2013
The Game Story:
Ninth-ranked Syracuse cruised to a 17-5 win over the Canisius College men’s lacrosse team on Friday night at the Carrier Dome. The loss drops the Griffs to 1-7 on the season, while the nationally-ranked Orange improves to 6-2.

Sophomore midfielder Tim Edwards led the Griffs with three points on a pair of scores and one assist. Junior Kevin Collins, sophomore Brandon Bull and freshman Brad Thomas also added tallies for the Griffs. For Thomas, it marked the first goal of his collegiate career.

After the teams traded scores to open the contest, it was all Syracuse the remainder of the first half. The Orange scored the final 11 goals of the first and second periods to head into the intermission with a 12-1 lead.

By the time that Bull ended the Syracuse run 2:24 into the third quarter, Canisius had not scored in 27:55 of action, while the Orange tallied 13-straight scores. The Syracuse lead would reach as many as 14 goals but the Griffs did not give in and outscored the Orange 3-1 in the fourth quarter for the 17-5 final.

Syracuse finished the game with a 33-14 edge in shots, while the Griffs won the battle at the faceoff X, 15-11.

Kevin Rice led the Orange with six points on three goals and three assists.

Four Canisius goaltenders saw action on the day, including senior netminder Kyle Bell, who saw his first action since 2011 after missing the 2012 campaign with a serious head injury. Bell recorded one save on two shots on goal in just over 11 minutes of action.

The Griffs return to MAAC play next weekend, hosting Siena in a rematch of the 2012 MAAC Championship – a 10-9 Canisius win. The conference foes are set to meet in Buffalo on Saturday with game time slated for 1 p.m.
