| The Game Story: | |||||
| Baltimore, MD - Sophomore midfielder Ben Bailey scored three goals and
added an assist as visiting Navy (2-0, 1-0 ECAC), defeated UMBC (0-1,
0-1), 11-4, in an ECAC game played at UMBC Stadium.
The Mids never trailed, as they scored the game's first four goals , with Bailey tallying the first at 1:40 of the first quarter and the fourth 37 seconds into the second. UMBC cut the lead in half at intermission on scores by attackman Josh Gerber and midfielder Franklin Berry. Navy again struck twice in the third quarter, but again the Retrievers rallied on goals by Gerber and midfielder Adam Shiley to get within 6-4 with 9:57 left to play in the third quarter. But Navy would shut UMBC out the rest of the game, and five different Midshipmen scored in support of netminder Jon Higdon (11 saves, 4 goals against). Sophomore attackman Dave Pittard added two goals and two assists for the Mids, while senior attackman Eddie McKinnon added 2 goals and an asisst. Gerber was the only multiple-point scorer for UMBC with a pair of goals. The road team in the series has won in each of the last six years, and Navy avenged last season's 9-8 overtime loss in Annapolis. |
