March 30, 2002
The Game Story:
Baltimore, MD - Junior attackman Joey Kestermann scored a career high four goals to lead UMBC (3-3, 2-2 ECAC) to a 10-6 victory over Rutgers (2-7, 0-2) in an ECAC Lacrosse League game played at UMBC Stadium.

The Retrievers never trailed, but Rutgers erased a 5-2 second quarter deficit and tied the game at 5-5 on a goal by Tim White 1:16 into the third quarter. But UMBC held the Scarlet Knights off the board for the next 27 minutes and scored five times to earn the win. Long stick midfielder Greg Wojtech scored the game-winner at the 4:43 mark of the third quarter, stripping a Rutgers attacker on one end and taking the ball the length of the field to score on the other. Junior midfielder Josh Dodson and senior attackman Jon Harasym added third quarter scores, and then Kestermann tallied a pair of unassisted goals in the fourth quarter to seal the game.

Harasym added two goals and an assist for UMBC, and sophomore midfielder Justin Smith added a pair of goals. Rutgers^ midfielder Jeff Duca was the lone multiple goal scorer for the Scarlet Knights with two, while Nick Schmidt added a goal and an assist.

UMBC netminder Tim Flanagan repelled 12 Rutgers shots, while keeper Chris Kenyon made 13 saves in the Rutgers net.

Kestermann earned the start in place of leading scorer Josh Gerber, who suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament last week vs. Penn State. He had just two goals and two assists entering the game.
