Vermont vs. Marist

The Game Story:
BURLINGTON, Vt. - Freshman Drew Philie (Sandwich, Mass.) scored a career high four goals but Vermont could not hold on to a three goal fourth quarter lead in a 13-11 loss against Marist at Moulton Winder Field on Saturday afternoon. The Catamounts dropped to 0-4 with the defeat while Marist improved to 3-0.

The Catamounts controlled most of the game jumping out to a 4-2 lead after one quarter behind two Geoff Worley (Coronado, Calif.) goals. After giving up an early goal to Ryan Sharkey, the Catamounts scored three consecutive times.

In the second quarter Vermont pushed its lead to 9-5 before Sharkey scored with 1:07 left before the half to cut the lead to 9-6. Four different Catamounts scored in the second period including Philie who found the back of the net twice.

After each team scored twice in the third quarter, Marist exploded for five goals in the final quarter to seal the 13-11 victory. Corey Zindel was the star for Marist as he scored three times and recorded an assist in the fourth quarter. Zindel found the back at the 11:15 mark before scoring again within a minute to cut the Vermont lead to 11-10, before Connor Rice tied the game up with 9:50 remaining. Matt Teichmann scored the game-winner with 7:03 left, before Zindel gave Marist an insurance goal.

Vermont was 1-for-1 in man-up situations while Marist was 0-for-5 and both teams fired 33 shots on Saturday.

The Catamounts return to action on March 13 when they travel to Virginia Military Institute for a 1 p.m. start.
