Vermont vs. Providence

The Game Story:
BURLINGTON, Vt. – Providence’s Dan Guintini scored three goals and added an assist and Andrew McMinn recorded 12 saves as the Friars won their first game of the 2005 season Sunday with a 6-3 victory over Vermont at South Burlington High School.

Vermont, 1-1, jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals by Austin Humphries (Salem, Va.) and Jamie Kirk (Orangeville, Ont.). But Providence, 1-3, responded with four unanswered goals, taking a 3-2 lead on Giuntini’s first goal at 6:53 of the second quarter. Giuntini then scored the only goal of the third quarter as Providence took a 4-2 lead into the final 15 minutes. In the fourth quarter, Vermont’s Chris Legare (Derry, N.H.) scored with 13:34 left to make it 4-3, but Providence scored a pair of man-up goals – one by Henry Pynchon at 11:27 and the second by John Hilloster with 1:20 remaining. Vermont had a total of 12 penalties in the game compared to three for the Friars. Mike Gabel (Falmouth, Mass.) had five saves for the Catamounts, who host Siena Tuesday at 3:30pm at South Burlington High School.
