The Game Story:
BURLINGTON, Vt. – Stony Brook’s Jason Cappadoro scored twice and assisted on five other goals as the Seawolves broke open a tight game with 11 second-half goals on the way to a 16-5 America East men’s lacrosse win over Vermont Saturday at UVM’s Centennial Field. Stony Brook, 8-3 overall and 3-1 in league play, had a 2-1 lead after one quarter and led 5-3 at halftime before exploding for seven third-quarter goals. Vermont scored twice in the third quarter but Stony Brook continued to pour it on in the fourth, outscoring the Catamounts, 4-0, in the final 15 minutes. Adam Marksberry had two goals and two assists for Stony Brook, while Rhys Duch had two goals and an assist. Sean Chamberlain and Ryan Maehr also scored twice for the Seawolves. For Vermont, Sean Layton (Wilmington, Mass.) scored three times to lead the way offensively. Dan Zwirko (Longmeadow, Mass.) and Colin Thompson (Shelburne, Vt.) also scored for the Catamounts. In net, Stony Brook’s Matt Ural, a freshman making his first career start, stopped 18 shots while giving up all five goals in 56:22. Errol Wilson came on in relief and made three saves in the final 3:38. Vermont’s Mike Gabel (Falmouth, Mass.) recorded 17 saves. The Catamounts host crosstown rival Saint Michael’s Tuesday at 3:30pm at Centennial Field.
