The Game Story:
MEDFORD, Mass. – Vermont junior Sean Layton (Wilmington, Mass) scored five goals and junior Dan Zwirko (Longmeadow, Mass.) added three scores to lead the Catamounts to an impressive 14-3 win over Wagner at Tufts University. Vermont has won four of its last five games to improve to 5-2 on the season. In just seven games this year the Catamounts have already matched last season’s win total.

“We started off slow but we picked it up in the second and third quarters,” head coach Steve Beville said. “It was nice to be able to play everyone and have them gain some valuable experience for down the road. Now we look forward to our game against a very good opponent in Quinnipiac on Saturday.”

The Catamounts led just 4-1 at halftime but exploded for 10 goals in the second half.

Sophomore Andrew Holden (Glastonbury, Conn.) notched two goals and sophomore Jamie Kirk (Orangeville, Ontario) had one goal and two assists. Junior Clayton Phillips-Dorsett (Manchester, Vt.) tallied three assists.

Senior captain Austin Humphries (Salem, Va.) also scored his fourth goal of the year. Junior John Forbes (Hampton, N.H.) and junior Jared Overlee (Hingham, Mass.) both scored the first goals of their career.

Sophomore Matt Landsman (Lutherville, Md.) started the first three quarters in goal making nine saves while junior Daryl Swarts (Ann Arbor, Mich.) finished up the fourth quarter with eight stops.

The Catamounts return to action on Saturday when they host Quinnipiac at Moulton Winder Field at 1:00pm. Admission to all men’s lacrosse games during the 2006 season is free of charge.
