Villanova sophomore Richie Kratz (Succasunna, N.J./ Delbarton) put the Wildcats on the board 2:22 into the contest with his first goal of the season. Drexel responded with back-to-back goals from sophomore Mark Williamson (Corning, N.Y.) and junior Joe Fiore (St. James, N.Y.) to put the Dragons ahead 2-1.

Villanova regained the lead with three unanswered goals to go ahead, 4-2, early in the second quarter. Cacciabeve accounted for two of the three goals during the stretch, with freshman Dan Fanelli (Wantagh, N.Y./ Wantagh) scoring the other goal. In the third quarter the Wildcats came out and scored two goals in the opening five minutes of the half. Senior Mike Holloway (Malvern, Pa./ Malvern Prep) tallied his fifth goal of the season and extended his streak to eight straight games with at least one goal. With 10:35 remaining in the third quarter, Cacciabeve connected with freshman Marc Creegan (West Babylon, N.Y./ St. Anthony's) in front of the cage and Creegan found the back of the net putting Villanova ahead, 6-4. The Wildcats unleashed 14 shots in the third quarter, but only managed to beat Drexel goalkeeper, Jordie Olivella twice.

A pesky Drexel offense fought back again and trimmed the 'Cats lead to one goal, 6-5, on Jarrett Mizzi's (Floral Park, Md.) second goal of the afternoon.

Villanova capitalized on an extra-man opportunity early in the fourth quarter with junior Brian Marks (Glenmoore, Pa./ Downingtown) scoring his third goal of the season on an assist from Cacciabeve. Once again the Wildcats captured a two-goal lead, 7-5, but Drexel fought back and outscored Villanova 4-1 over the closing minutes to claim the double-overtime victory.
