|Villanova, Pa. - Villanova (5-6, 3-1 Colonial Athletic Association) mounted a comeback midway through the game but it fell short as #2 Hofstra University (9-1, 3-0 CAA) defeated Villanova 13-4 this evening at Villanova Stadium.|
Villanova's junior Andy German (Wayne, Pa.) scored from 15 yards out off an assist by freshman Tim Langan, Jr. (Madison, N.J.) at 13:45 in the third before Langan Jr. scored falling down in front of the Hofstra cage at 12:16 after drawing a penalty. That cut Hofstra's lead to 6-3. But the Pride halted any Wildcat comeback effort by recording the next seven of eight goals, including six straight over the following 20 minutes.
Athan Iannucci scored the game's first goal five seconds into the contest after senior Joe Mascaretti won the face-off. Hofstra's senior Joe Keysor scored unassisted two minutes later to put Hofstra up 2-1. Villanova's Chris Colliniates (Atlantic Beach, N.Y.) won the first face-off of the second half and streaked down the field to score unassisted to get the Wildcats on the board. But the Pride scored the next four consecutive goals to go up 6-1 at the break.
Hofstra's Matt Southard had nine saves in the win. Villanova's Joe Canuso (Moorestown, N.J.) recorded 16 in the loss.
