April 19, 2003
The Game Story:
Villanova, Pa. - On Saturday, April 19, the Wildcats played host to Penn in men's lacrosse action. Villanova fought back from four goals down to hand the Quakers the non-conference loss, 8-7. The victory brings Villanova's record to 9-3 overall and 2-1 in the CAA.

The Wildcats took control of the opening face-off and controlled the ball for 4:25 before Brian Marks (Glenmoore, Pa./Downingtown) found the back of the net putting the 'Cats up 1-0. Penn answered in the first period with a goal by Ethan Haire and the teams traded goals until the half where Penn held a slight 4-3 edge.

Pennsylvania came out firing in the third and capitalized on Wildcat turnovers as they extended their lead to 7-3. The scoring run came at the hands of Ethan Haire, Chase McGowan, and Jake Martin.

Junior Matt Lucas (Gainesville, Va./Paul VI) took the opening face-off of the fourth quarter the length of the field for an unassisted goal six seconds in. Lucas was victorious in the ensuing face-off as well which led to a quick goal from Marks off of a beautiful pass from Richie Kratz (Succasunna, N.J./Delbarton).

Villanova kept the fourth quarter rally going and managed one more goal from Lucas and two from Brendan O'Donnell (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) to take the lead at 8-7. The Quakers could not answer the Wildcat charge and fell victim to Villanova in the comforts of Villanova Stadium.

Four Wildcats scored two goals apiece as Marks, Lucas, O'Donnell, and Marc Creegan (West Babylon, N.Y./St. Anthony's) got on the board. Kratz added two assists on the night.

Villanova travels to Hofstra on Wednesday, April 23, for a CAA match-up with playoff implications. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. as a make-up for a snowed out game from earlier this season.
