Vmi vs. Colgate

The Game Story:
LEXINGTON, Va. -- An eight-goal third quarter was used by the Colgate men's lacrosse team (3-2) to extend an 6-3 lead to 14-3 in defeating VMI (1-4) by a score of 18-3 on Tuesday night at Washington and Lee's Astroturf Field.

The Keydets led 3-2 after the first quarter behind two goals from senior midfielder John Eddy (Tully, N.Y./ Tully), including one with just 12 seconds left in the period to give VMI the lead.

Colgate would score the final 16 goals of the game. Four came in the second period to give Colgate the 6-3 lead at halftime and eight were scored in the aforementioned third period to put the game out of reach. The Red Raiders scored five goals in the first 11:29 of the third quarter. Colgate scored four goals in the fourth quarter to create the final 15-goal margin of victory.

Senior midfielder Joe Parker (Crofton, Md./ Bridgton Academy) led the way for the Red Raiders with three goals and three assists on the night. All three of his assists came in the third quarter. Freshman midfielder Jason Vassas (Fairport, N.Y./ Choate Rosemary Hall) and sophomore attackman Chris Michaels (Pennington, N.J./ Lawrenceville) each tallied three goals apiece for Colgate.

Keydet junior goalkeeper Brian Ward (Novi, Mich./ Novi) made 11 saves on the night. Colgate senior Chris Hettler (Liverpool, N.Y./ Liverpool) saved eight shots for the Red Raiders.

VMI will travel to Lafayette on for a 3 p.m. contest on Saturday. Colgate will be at Villanova for 1 p.m. game, also on Saturday.
