The Game Story:

LEXINGTON, Va. Ė The VMI lacrosse team fell to the visiting Siena Saints in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action Saturday afternoon, 12-4, in a game played on VMIís Senior Day at Foster Stadium.

With the win, Siena moves to 6-5 overall and remains perfect in MAAC play, as the Saints now stand 4-0. VMI loses its eighth-consecutive game and falls to 1-10 overall, and 0-5 in League action.

The Saints were led by Jordan Loftus, who had a game-high six points on four goals and two assists. All told, seven different players tallied goals for the visitors. In addition, Siena was able to control the tempo, as the Saints outshot the Keydets 40-25 and were a perfect 22-for-22 on clear attempts.

The two teams played a back-and-forth opening few minutes, with the Saints striking first. John Rogener tallied a goal at the 8:18 mark, off a feed from Ryan Duggan, to put Siena up 1-0. However, VMI struck back less than two minutes later, as Tim Moran scored off a feed from Jacob Weimer, tying the contest at one. Siena responded at the 4:44 mark and retook the lead, an advantage they would not relinquish.

In fact, that go-ahead score began a four-goal spurt, which would encompass the majority of the second quarter of play. The Saints scored at 7:17, 5:28 and 2:06 to pull ahead 5-1, but VMI fought back. Goals by Colin Bosse and Weimer in the final 1:17 of the half cut the deficit to two, 5-3. Statistics were virtually even at halftime, including shots, which Siena led 17-12.

The visitors came out in the second half and took command. Three straight goals to open the third quarter pushed the lead to five, 8-3, until Weimer notched his second goal to chop the margin back to four, 8-4. Siena would go on to score the contestís final four goals, and shut out the Keydets in the fourth period, to seal the 12-4 victory.

The Keydets were led by Weimer in defeat, as the junior scored two goals and assisted on another. Sean McCoy made nine saves for VMI, while Brent Herbst, who came into the game third in the country in goals-against-average, stopped eight shots for Siena.

VMI lacrosse will return to action next Saturday, as the Keydets travel to Staten Island, N.Y. to battle the Wagner Seahawks. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
