The Game Story:
LEXINGTON, Va. -- VMI (3-9) busted open a one-goal game at halftime with a six-goal third quarter, defeating Siena (1-10), 15-9 in men's lacrosse action at Patchin Field on Sunday afternoon. The 15 goals were the most scored by the Keydets this season.

The Saints opened the game with two quick goals on tallies from sophomore attackman Daniel Wolpert and senior midfielder Michael Mastriani just 4:51 into the game. The Keydets then came back with four goals of their own, including two from sophomore midfielder Brian Niven (Barrington, Ill./ Barrington). Niven's goal with 26 ticks left in the opening quarter gave VMI a 4-3 lead.

The lead changed hands two more times in the second quarter as each team scored two goals apiece.

VMI broke the game open in the third quarter with six goals from six different players. The Keydets took a 12-8 lead into the fourth quarter, where they iced the game by outscoring the Saints, 3-1 en route to the six-goal win. Freshman attackman Erik Rohrmann (Ridgefield, Conn./ Ridgefield) scored two goals in the final stanza for VMI.

The Keydets were led in scoring by Niven, who added two assists to his two goals. Rohrmann and freshman midfielder Gabe McCaig (Painted Point, N.Y./ Corning West) each scored three goals. Senior defenseman Derick Swenck (Midlothian, Va./ Chesterfield) scored a career-high two goals. Wolpert led all goal-scorers with four for Siena.

Siena freshman goalkeeper John Pence made nine saves for the Saints. Keydet junior Brian Ward (Novi, Mich./ Novi) made six stops on the afternoon.

The Keydets were aided by a season-high 70 ground balls. Niven won 19 of 22 face-offs, while the team won 24 of 28.

VMI will play its final game of the season on Saturday at 2 p.m. against St. Vincent. Siena will play host to Wagner on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
