The Game Story:
VMI Men's Lacrosse Held Off by Wagner, 5-4

Lexington, Va. -- The VMI lacrosse team was held to its smallest offensive output of the season in a 5-4 loss to Wagner at a frigid Patchin Field on Wednesday afternoon.

The Seahawks (1-2, 1-0 MAAC) were aided by sophomore goalkeeper Chris Sochacki, who made 15 saves, while face 38 VMI shots. The Keydets (0-4, 0-2 MAAC) doubled the amount of shots that Wagner had on the day.

Wagner scored three of the first four goals of the game to take a 3-1 lead with 12:50 left in the second quarter. Two of their goals were scored by freshman attackman Mike Sciamanna. The Keydets fought back to tie the game at halftime behind goals from sophomore midfielder Joe Picariello (Sandwich, Mass./ Merrimack College) and junior midfielder Erik Rohrmann (Ridgefield, Conn./ Ridgefield).

Wagner took the lead back with 2:12 remaining in the third period with a goal from sophomore attackman Kevin Zulauf. The Seahawks doubled their lead with 9:37 left in the fourth quarter, when Zulauf struck again on another unassisted goal.

With 6:14 left in regulation VMI scored its lone goal of the half when junior attackman Gabe McCaig (Painted Post, N.Y./ Corning West) scored on a feed from senior attackman Matt Dixson (Arlington, Va./ Bishop O'Connell). Wagner was then able to hold the Keydets without a goal through the remainder of the game, fending off numerous scoring opportunities.

The Keydets were granted 6:30 of extra-man opportunity time in the fourth quarter and were able to score just one goal.

VMI junior goalkeeper Matt Hook (Catonsville, Md./ Catonsville) made eight stops for the Keydets.

VMI will return to Patchin Field on Saturday afternoon as it plays host to St. Joseph's. The opening face-off will be at 1:00. Wagner will play at Vermont at 12 noon on Saturday.
