| LEXINGTON, Va. -- The VMI Lacrosse team (2-8) snapped a six-game losing
streak on Monday afternoon with a 9-4 victory over Lees-McRae (0-12) at
Patchin Field. The nine goals were the most scored by the Keydets in a game
this season.
Senior midfielder Ben Midura (Penfield, N.Y./ Penfield) got the Keydets on the board first with a goal just 50 seconds into the game off an assist from sophomore attackman Tim Erwin (Camillus, N.Y./ West Genesee). Senior midfielder John Eddy (Tully, N.Y./ Tully) added a goal with 6:41 remaining in the opening stanza, giving the Keydets a 2-0 lead. Lees-McRae sliced the lead in half when freshman defenseman Zack Dabkowski scored at the 4:01 mark. Erwin scored the second quarter's only goal with an assist from Eddy at the 7:12 mark as the Keydets took a 3-1 lead into halftime. The Bobcats cut the lead to just one again, when freshman attackman Zack Bridges netted the twine 2:48 into the second half. The Keydets responded though, with goals from Erwin and freshman midfielder Jeff Rummell (Hudson, Ohio/ Western Reserve) to push the lead to 5-2. VMI put the game away in the fourth quarter with a four-goal outburst, gliding to the five-goal victory. Midura led the way for the Keydets with three goals. Eddy added two goals and an assist, while Erwin scored a goal and notched three assists. No Bobcat scored more than one point. Keydet junior goalkeeper Brian Ward (Novi, Mich./ Novi) made 11 saves on the afternoon. LMC's freshman Nick Anderton made 19 stops, including 13 in the first half. VMI will play host to St. Andrews College on Saturday at 2 p.m. Lees-McRae will face Wheeling Jesuit on Saturday afternoon at 4:00. That game will be played in Roanoke, Va. |
