| LEXINGTON, Va. -- Senior goalkeeper Chris Lalli (Cranbury, N.J./Princeton) posted a career-high 21 saves in leading Washington and Lee to an 8-4 victory over VMI in the 20th Annual Lee-Jackson Lacrosse Classic on Wednesday afternoon at VMI's Alumni Memorial Stadium. Lalli and VMI freshman goalkeeper Sean McCoy were named the winners of the Worrell-Fallon Award as the game MVP's. Washington and Lee (7-3) opened the scoring just eight seconds into the game as junior attackman Ned Rider (Manakin-Sabot, Va./Collegiate) scored off an assist from sophomore attackman Tim Skeen (Baltimore, Md./Towson). The Keydets (1-8) tied the score just 2:34 later as junior attackman Matt Harrison scored off a feed from senior midfielder Steve Long, but the Generals scored three unanswered goals in the second quarter to assume a 4-1 lead at halftime. The teams traded goals to begin the third quarter, but W&L pulled away with another three-goal run midway through the penultimate quarter for an 8-2 lead heading into the final period. VMI mounted a charge during the final 15 minutes, taking 22 shots and scoring a pair of late goals, but Lalli recorded 12 saves in the quarter to preserve the win. Rider led the W&L offense with two goals and one assist, while senior midfielder Jim Ryan (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Academy) posted two goals. Skeen added a pair of assists. The Keydets were led by junior attackman Kevin Hill, who tallied two goals and one assist. Long had a pair of assists, while McCoy notched 10 saves in goal. W&L returns to action on Sat., Apr. 14 when it travels to Hampden-Sydney for a 1:00 pm contest.
