Wagner vs. Canisius

The Game Story:
Staten Island, NY Ė The Wagner menís lacrosse team, led by a career-high four goals by freshman attackman Cody Isdaner (Gladwyne, PA/Episcopal Academy), put up a valiant effort before falling to Canisius 8-7.

Wagner battled back from a 5-2 halftime deficit to knot the game at 6-6 on an unassisted goal by Isdaner with 50 seconds remaining in the third quarter. After Tom Vivian put Canisius back on top 7-6 with 14:21 left to play, the Seahawks again fought back to tie the game at 7-7 on a goal by junior attack Will Macumber (Manorville, NY/Eastport South Manor). Thatís the way the score stood until Jimmy Haney notched an unassisted tally with 7:05 to go which made it an 8-7 game and the Griffins were able to held on for the win.

With the loss, the Seahawks fall to 0-10 on the season, 0-4 in MAAC play while the Golden Griffins improve to 4-6 overall, 3-2 in league play.

Canisius out-shot Wagner by a slim 26-23 margin and won 11-of-19 faceoffs while the Seahawks led in the ground ball department, 32-30.

Scoring one goal apiece for Wagner were Macumber, sophomore midfielder William Hedges (Shoreham, NY/Longwood), and senior midfielder Sean Travis (Calverton, NY/Riverhead). In goal, senior Michael Gutkin (Freehold, NJ/Freehold Township) came up with six saves.

Adam Jones paced a balanced Canisius attack with two goals while six other players had one goal apiece. In goal, Sean Callahan recorded eight saves.

Wagner is next in action on Wednesday, April 21 when the Seahawks travel to Manhattan in a 4:00 pm face-off.
