With the win, Denver ran its record to 10-2, 5-0 in the ECAC which earned them the ECAC regular season title and the No. 1 seed for the postseason tournament. Bellarmine fell to 4-10 overall and 0-5 in the conference.

Denver extended their lead to 7-3 in the second quarter, but the Knights scored three in a row to narrow the gap to 7-5 with 3:40 to go in the first half. The Pioneers' Matthews found the back of the net for his fourth goal to end the first half scoring with Denver leading 8-5.
