Bellarmine vs. Mars Hill
March 5, 2005
The Game Story:
March 5, Louisville, Ky.- The Bellarmine lacrosse team won their home opener today, defeating Mars Hill College 22-10. It was the first home lacrosse game ever played at Bellarmine. The Knights improved to 2-0 in their inaugural season, while Mars Hill dropped to 0-4.

The Knights wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, with Shawn Evans (Peterborough, Ont.) drilling his first goal of the contest in the first minute and a half of play. Bellarmine pounded the Mars Hill net early, connecting on 9 of 15 shots. Garret Kikot (Toronto, Ont.) and Evans hooked up three times in the period to help Bellarmine jump out to a 9-2 first period lead.

In the second half, BU played much of their bench and sat starting goalie JC Hutchens (Westminster, Md.), after he saved three shots and allowed five goals in the first 30 minutes. Freshman Brad Pillen (Harper Woods, Mich.) allowed just one goal in the third period, as the Knights added to their lead, which ballooned to 18-6 at the end of the third. Mars Hill played even with BU in the fourth, but the damage had already been done.

Kikot finished the game with six goals and six assists to lead the Knights. Jamie Floris (Niagra on the Lake, Ont.) added four scores and an assist, while Evans finished his day with three scores and four assists.

Freshman Anthony Triolo had three goals and three assists for the Lions.

Bellarmine now hits the road over spring break, traveling to Division I Wagner on Wednesday.
