The Game Story:
QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's lacrosse team fell to No. 14 Penn State, 13-3, on Saturday afternoon in an ECAC Lacrosse League contest at DaSilva Memorial Field. Attackman Rob Gannon (Port Washington, N.Y.) led the Red Storm offense, scoring two goals. He now has nine goals this year.

Attackman Tom Michaelsen (Bethpage, N.Y.) recorded a goal to continue his streak of scoring at least one goal per contest. Michaelsen leads the Red Storm with 17 goals. Meanwhile, midfielder Rick Ruggles (Fair Lawn, N.J.), picked up his first assist of the season.

The Nittany Lions offensive charge was led by attackmen Brian Boyle and Nate Whitaker. Boyle tallied two goals and four assists while Whitaker scored four goals. Goalie Drew Adams recorded eight saves.

Three different Nittany Lions recorded a goal in the first quarter to put PSU up 3-0 at the 7:50 mark, but Gannon connected with six seconds remaining in the period to put St. John's on the scoreboard. Penn State scored two more times early in the second quarter but St. John's pulled within two goals when Gannon found the back of the net at the 5:52 mark off an assist from Ruggles to make the score 5-3. The Red Storm was unable to close the gap any further while being held scoreless in the second half.

St. John's falls to 4-6 overall this season, 0-5 in ECAC Lacrosse League play. This is the Red Storm's second season since the program was ended after the 1995 season. Penn State, meanwhile, improves to 6-3 overall and is 4-1 in conference play.

St. John's returns to action on Saturday, April 22 to collide with ECAC foe Hobart at Boswell Field in Geneva, N.Y. It is the Red Storm's last road game of the season. The Statesmen lead the all-time series, 1-0.
