Robert Morris vs. Hofstra
April 26, 2008
The Game Story:
Moon Township, PA --

Sophomore Dan Stein scored four goals and junior Anthony Muscarella capped a furious Pride rally as #20 Hofstra defeated Robert Morris, 13-12, in a CAA game at Joe Walton Stadium Saturday. The victory improves the Pride's record to 8-5 overall and 5-1 in conference play while the Colonials fell to 4-11 overall and 0-6.

Stein equaled his career-best with four goals while Jay Card had three goals and one assist and Muscarella added two goals and one assist for the Pride. Robert Morris was led by Andrew Watt with five goals and two assists, Trevor Moore with three goals and Lee Davis with two goals. Colonials' goalie John Kennedy made 23 saves to prevent a Hofstra rout.

The Colonials jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals by Corbyn TaoBrambleby and Watt in the first 3:24 of the contest. After Card closed the gap to 2-1 with his 25th goal of the year off a pass from Stephen Bentz with 10:05 to play, the two teams exchanged the next four goals with Watt and Trevor Moore scoring for Robert Morris and Card and Tom Dooley scoring for the Pride to end the first quarter with the Colonials ahead, 4-3.

But Robert Morris scored the first three goals of the second quarter with Lee Davis, Moore and Watt denting the twine in the first 11 minutes to take a 7-3 lead. Hofstra battled back with four unanswered goals with tallies coming from Michael Colleluori, his ninth of the season, and Anthony Muscarella, his 22nd, coming before halftime, and Dan Stein, his 14th, and Stephen Bentz, his first of the season, coming in the first 3:26 of the third quarter to give the Pride their first lead of the contest at 8-7.

Davis tied the game at 8-all1:32 later off a pass from Michael Fleming before the Pride regained the lead right off the face-off on a man-up goal from Card, his second of the contest and 26th of the year. But the Colonials scored the next three goals as Dan Kerch scored with 7:33 to play in the third and Watt notched his fourth and fifth of the game 43 seconds apart to give Robert Morris an 11-8 lead with 6:06 to play in the quarter.

Two minutes later the rain and lightening descended on this Pittsburgh suburb causing a 38 minute delay in the game. The rest seem to rejuvenate the Pride as Stein would score the next three goals including the last one 6:36 into the fourth quarter to tie the game at 11-11. Hofstra took the lead with 3:59 to play when Card found Muscarella in the middle of the field 12 yards out. The junior fired a bullet that beat John Kennedy over his shoulder for his second of the game and a 12-11 lead.

Hofstra added to its lead with 11 seconds remaining as junior Ryan Carter, with Robert Morris in a full-field ride, scooted from behind the cage to score into the unguarded net for his first score of the season. The Colonials closed out the scoring when a desperation pass from midfield after the face-off, skidded by the Pride defense to Moore, who was in alone on Danny Orlando and scored his second of the game with three seconds to play.

The Pride outshot the Colonials, 53-31 in the contest. The Pride will next be in action on Wednesday night April 30 when they host a CAA Championship semifinal game against a team to be determined Saturday night. A Villanova victory over Drexel Saturday night would give the Pride the top seed over the Dragons in the CAA Championship Tournament. A Drexel victory would give the Dragons the top seed and Hofstra, as the second seed, would still host a semifinal round contest. The CAA Championship game will be played on Saturday, May 3 at the site of the higher seed.
