Less than 20 seconds later Marasti put the Colonials up by two and then dished out back-to-back assists on two Tao-Brambleby goals.

Before the end of the quarter Robert Morris added two goals to their collection to earn a demanding 6-0 lead, but with 10 seconds left on the clock VMI’s Colin Bosse was able to find the net to make the score 6-1 going into the second quarter.

For the entire second quarter the Robert Morris offense continued to pressure the Keydet defense and were able to score four times to set the score at 10-1 at the end of the first-half. Six different Colonials had a hand in at least one point throughout the second quarter, with Johnson leading the way with a pair of goals.

VMI returned in the second half and gave the Colonials a bit more of a challenge allowing only one goal by Tao-Brambleby in the third quarter at 4:36. The Keydets were also able to get a ball past RMU goalie Sal Barcia (West Islip, N.Y. / West Islip) to settle the score at 11-2 before the start of the fourth quarter.

Barcia finished the game with eight saves, while RMU freshman goalie Dillon Pope (Smithtown, N.Y. / Smithtown West) added two. VMI’s Sean McCoy and Alex Benedick tallied six and seven stops, respectively. VMI had three extra-man advantages to the Colonials two, but neither team capitalized on their opportunities.
