March 12, 2007
The Game Story:
Sophomore Brandon Johnson's (Finksburg, Md. / Westminster) goal on an assist from junior Andrew Watt (Kitchener, Ontario / Grand River Collegiate) with 3:24 to play helped the Robert Morris University men's lacrosse team climb out of a three-goal deficit in the fourth quarter for an 11-10 victory over Virginia Military Institute Monday afternoon at Joe Walton Stadium. The win improves the Colonials to 3-2 overall on the 2007 campaign, while VMI fell to 1-3.

Watt's assist was part of an eight-point performance from the junior attack, who registered four goals and four assists on the afternoon. Robert Morris entered the fourth quarter down, 7-6, after Steve Long scored an even-strength goal with just 4.2 seconds left on the clock in the third quarter. Kevin Hill then scored two goals early in the fourth quarter to extend the Keydets lead to 9-6, but RMU would take a 10-9 lead thanks to four unanswered goals.

Junior Michael Fleming (Sarnia, Ontario / St. Christopher) got the rally started for the Colonials with a goal at the 10:33 mark of the fourth quarter, while Watt came through with a tally less than a minute later to pull RMU within one, 9-8. Johnson would tie the score, 9-9, with 7:06 remaining on an assist from Fleming, and Watt gave Robert Morris a 10-9 advantage on another assist from Fleming with 6:08 to go. Hill would tie the game, 10-10, with an even-strength goal for VMI with 4:36 to play, but Johnson notched the game-winner to give the Colonials the victory.

RMU entered halftime with a 4-2 advantage thanks to two goals from Watt and one each from sophomore Truett Valentine (Alexandria, Va. / Mt. Vernon) and senior Carlo Sunseri (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Mt. Lebanon) in the first half. In the third quarter Sunseri extended the Colonial lead to 5-2 with a goal on an assist from Watt, but Long and Hill each scored for the Keydets to close their deficit to one, 5-4, at the 9:45 mark of the quarter. Sunseri gave RMU some breathing room with a goal, but VMI reeled off five straight tallies to take a 9-6 edge with 11:25 to go.

Watt paced Robert Morris with four goals and four assists for eight points, while Fleming finished with a goal and three assists and Sunseri three goals. It marked the fifth straight multi-point game for Sunseri to open the 2007 campaign. The Keydets were led by Hill, who scored four goals and tallied two assists off the bench for six points. Junior goalie Jason Dockum (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Mt. Lebanon) recorded six saves for the Colonials, while Sean McCoy recorded 14 saves for VMI.
