Robert Morris vs. Jacksonville
March 22, 2014
The Game Story:
Moon Township, Pa. Sophomores James Rahe (Aldergrove, British Columbia / W.J. Mouat) and Luke Laszkiewicz (Oshawa, Ontario / Westminster Prep) each tallied four goals as the Robert Morris University men's lacrosse team earned a 13-9 victory over Jacksonville this afternoon. Robert Morris (3-4, 0-2 NEC) stayed undefeated against Jacksonville (1-6, 0-1 A-Sun) in its history, earning its fourth win since the two teams first met in 2010. Rahe's hat trick was his second straight, as he registered the first one of his career last Saturday at Hobart. Laszkiewicz's hat trick was the sixth of his career and the third for him this season. The Colonials opened the game's scoring for the fifth time in 2014 just two minutes in. After the Dolphins' Tyler Black picked up cross-checking and slashing personal fouls, Rahe gathered a pass from Laszkiewicz on the left end and beat an off-balance Pete DeLuca on the man advantage. Jacksonville answered with two goals to take its only lead of the contest, but Rahe's second tally quickly ended that lead with 7:24 remaining in the first quarter. RMU earned its second man advantage with 39 seconds left after Rob Moore was sent off for pushing. Just seven seconds in, Laszkiewicz fired a laser over DeLuca's right shoulder to give the Colonials back the lead. After redshirt senior Taylor Graves (Carlsbad, Calif. / Carlsbad) and Tom Moore traded goals to begin the second stanza, RMU scored four unanswered goals to take a commanding 8-3 halftime lead. Sophomore Jacob Ruest (Cornwall, Ontario / The Hill Academy) and Laszkiewicz ripped the back of the net seven seconds of each other, while Rahe and Laszkiewicz scored man-up goals in the final three minutes. The Dolphins and Colonials again traded goals to start the third quarter, as freshman JonPatrik Kealey (Ottawa, Ontario / South Carleton) and Ruest each scored for the home team. However, Rob Moore's tally with 1:35 remaining in the frame sparked a 4-0 rally that brought Jacksonville within one with 8:24 left in regulation. That's as close as the Dolphins would get as Rahe's fourth goal ended a scoreless drought of nearly 14 minutes, setting up a late 3-0 run to seal the victory. Ruest and Graves added two goals each, with the latter recording an assist on Laszkiewicz's final tally. Kealey registered three helpers on the afternoon. Seniors Sean Meagher (Chesterfield, Mo. / St. Louis University) and Tyler Rankel (Downingtown, Pa. / Downingtown West) combined to cause seven turnovers as the Colonials forced 10 as a team. Both RMU and Jacksonville served eight penalties for seven minutes. However, the Colonials went 6-8 on their man-up opportunities, while the Dolphins were just 2-8 with the man advantage. Robert Morris is back in action this coming Tuesday as the Colonials travel to Mount St. Mary's in search of their first NEC win. That game is scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. start from Waldron Family Stadium.
