|The Game Story:|
|Moon Township, Pa. – The Robert Morris University men’s lacrosse team kept its perfect home record intact this afternoon with a 16-5 victory over Presbyterian at Joe Walton Stadium. The Colonials extend their home record to 2-0, while improving to 3-3 overall on the season.|
Senior Andrew Watt (Kitchener, Ontario / Grand River Collegiate) led the offense with three goals and two assists for his second consecutive five point effort.
Juniors Brandon Johnson (Finksburg, Md. / Westminster) and Billy Conques (Fairfax, Va. / Paul IV) combined for seven goals and eight points. Johnson netted four goals, while Conques added three goals and an assist to help the Colonials tie a program-best mark for most goals scored in a game.
Freshman Corbyn Tao-Brambleby (Coquitlam, B.C. / Western Reserve Academy) continued his impressive rookie campaign with two goals and two assists for four points. He currently leads all freshmen with 10 points through six games thus far.
Robert Morris took command of the game early on thanks to an 8-0 run that used up most of the first half. Watt started out the scoring with a goal just two minutes into the first quarter. A goal by Johnson and another from Watt would close out the quarter with the Colonials up 3-0.
The barrage extended nearly 12 minutes into the second frame. Watt added his third of the game off an assist from senior Michael Fleming (Sarnia, Ontario / St. Christopher), who finished with two goals and an helper, to move the lead to 4-0.
Johnson got in on the action as well with back-to-back tallies followed by scores from Fleming and junior Dan Kerch (Chesterfield, Mo. / DeSmet) before Presbyterian stifled the momentum with an unassisted tally by Brian Foley with 3:01 left to play.
After the halftime break, RMU came out firing again with Conques netting his first goal to start the third quarter. PC’s Foley countered though with a man-down score five minutes later to pull the Blue Hose within seven, but a quick shot from Johnson off a feed from freshman Keith Lee (Hudson, Oh. / Western Reserve Academy) would give RMU the 10-2 lead heading into the final frame.
Robert Morris built off the late score and pushed the game out of reach with a five-goal run to start the fourth. Tao-Brambleby added his first that set up scores to follow by freshman Trevor Moore (Port Coquitlam, B.C. / Western Reserve Academy), Fleming and two by Conques.
Presbyterian found an offensive rhythm late in the game as the Blue Hose outscored the Colonials, 3-1, in the final 10 minutes. Another from Tao-Brambleby gave the Colonials their 16th goal when he scored off an assist from sophomore Tom Kingsmore (Erie, Pa. / McDowell) in front of the cage.
Sophomore Sal Barcia (West Islip, N.Y. / West Islip) kept the Blue Hose at bay with an eight save performance en route to his third win of the season. Senior John Kennedy (Rockville Centre, N.Y. / South Side) and freshman Remington Steele (Dallas, Tx. / Hillcrest) wrapped up the fourth quarter with Steele registering one save.
Robert Morris outshot Presbyterian, 37-28, while holding the advantage in ground balls, 41-24.
The Colonials look to keep their unbeaten streak at home alive when they host VMI this Saturday, March 8 at Joe Walton Stadium. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
