Mercer vs. Saint Joseph's

The Game Story:
PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's men's lacrosse team outscored Mercer in every quarter on its way to a 14-9 victory on Saturday afternoon in Macon, Ga. Sophomore Ryan McGee led the Hawks with six goals as senior Augustus Quinzani added three of his own.

SJU was held scoreless in the first 11 minutes of action as Mercer notched its first goal early. The Hawks used the final four minutes of the first to outscore the Bears, 3-1, as Quinzani, McGee and Ted Hospodar got on the board.

The Hawks carried the hot hand through to the second quarter as they stretched their 3-1 run to 7-1. Will Abbott, Quinzani, Michael Dougherty and McGee each notched a goal in the opening five minutes of the second frame to take a commanding 7-2 lead. The Bears went on to add two goals to make the halftime score 7-4.

Daniel Lieb started the second half with a goal in the first 20 seconds as McGee followed with his third from a Johnny Simanski assist. After a two-goal rally from Mercer, McGee added another with just 11 seconds remaining in the third to take a 10-6 advantage into the final frame.

Saint Joseph's continued the trend, scoring three goals to start the fourth. Mercer answered back with two more before McGee netted the final Hawk goal of the game at 2:24 and the Bears added their last with just ten seconds in regulation.

Mercer outshot the Hawks, 49-39, on the afternoon and turned the ball over 23 times to SJU's 21. Mercer held a clear advantage on face-offs winning 18 of the 27.

Cole Branch and Zach Ward led the Bears with two goals apiece, while seven different Hawks got on the board.

Griffin Ferrigan picked up his fourth win of the season this afternoon as he stopped 16 shots. Dillon Volk recorded the loss in net for Mercer with 11 saves.
