The Game Story:
Greenville, S.C. In its third game of the inaugural season against a ranked team, Furman men's lacrosse dropped a 19-4 decision to No. 3/4 Duke. The game was the Paladins' first home night game of 2014. With the win, Duke moves to 7-2 on the year, while Furman falls to 0-8. Kenny Meinsen recorded two goals for the fourth consecutive game, while Clay Adams and Graham Dabbs each added one. Jake Gavin recorded 10 saves and Hil Blaze was 13-20 on face-offs. The teams were even on shots (37) and saves (10), and Furman had the edge in faceoff wins with 16. The Blue Devils were led by Josh Dionne with six goals and Deemer Class with three assists. Duke jumped out to an early 3-0 lead with less than one minute played in the game. The Blue Devils added another goal with 11:13 remaining before Furman broke its scoring drought on an unassisted goal by Kenny Meinsen with 9:10 remaining in the first quarter. Duke then scored eight unanswered goals spanning two quarters, before Meinsen recorded his second goal of the game with 1:30 remaining to cut the lead to 12-2. Duke then went on a 6-0 run before Dabbs scored his ninth goal of the year to give Furman its third goal of the day. Duke would add one more goal with 5:00 remaining before Clay Adams scored with 3:12 remaining to make the final score 19-4. The Paladins return home to Paladin Stadium on March 29 as they host High Point at 12:00 pm to open Atlantic Sun play.
