|The Game Story:|
|Garden City, N.Y. – Earlier tonight, the #5 men's lacrosse team hosted the Yellow Jackets of American International College in a Northeast-10 Conference contest. The Panthers, behind a seven goal performance from senior Joe Vitale, did most of the damage in the third period while the defense held the visitors scoreless in three out of four quarters. When all was said and done, Adelphi came out on the business end of a 14-2 victory. With the win, the Panthers advance to 6-1, 2-1 NE-10 while AIC still searches for their first win at 0-6, 0-3 NE-10.|
Vitale notched a game high seven goals, four of which came consecutively in the first period. Danny Blau had a productive evening, scoring two goals, dishing out four assists and scooping up five ground balls. Michael Rossi also put in two goals and handed out three assists for five points while Kevin Kennedy had two assists and Greg Puskuldjian had as many assists and won eight of 10 face offs. Nick Olson, Bryan Hall and Joe Celano all had one goal each to round out the scoring.
In goal, Eric Janssen logged 38:20 minutes and gave up just two goals while making four saves to pick up his sixth win. Backup Adian Bennardo closed out the final 21:40 and held AIC scoreless as he was credited with five saves.
As a team, the Panthers won the statistical battle as well, outshooting AIC 43-19, picking up more ground balls (51 to 29), won more face offs (13-7), had more clears (15-12) and had fewer turnovers (19-25).
For AIC, Brian Kennedy scored one goal, picked up three ground balls and won all seven of his team's face offs. Bryce Serriello had the only other goal while Nick Amendt was credited with one assist and three ground balls. Nick Palermo, Matthew Hay and Alex Ortensi combine for 12 of their team's 29 ground balls, each picking up four.
Eric Whettell played three full quarters in net, let up 14 goals and made seven saves in the loss while Perry Booker closed out the final period and made two saves.
Vitale notched the first two goals of the game within just a couple of seconds apart to get the ball rolling. He then followed it up with two more goals to make it a 4-0 affair with Blau, Puskuldjian and Rossi all being credited with assists.
Hall, Blau and Vitale all tacked on an additional goal in the second, furthering the lead to 7-0. AIC managed to get two goals in before the half with the final one coming on a man up opportunity with 15 seconds remaining in the period.
However, it would be the only goals the Yellow Jacket's offense would see as Adelphi went on to score an impressive seven third quarter goals off the sticks of five different players. Six of the final seven goals were made possible in part by assists from four different men.
