Adelphi vs. Dowling

The Game Story:
Garden City, N.Y. -

The Adelphi University men's lacrosse team hosted the seventh-ranked Golden Lions of Dowling College this afternoon on Competition Field. Adelphi had an 8-6 lead headed into the fourth quarter, only to have Dowling score three goals in the final quarter to hold on for the 9-8 victory.

Adelphi got on the board first, scoring the first two goals of the game with the first coming from sophomore Joe Vitale, which came from graduate student Jonathan Baron. The next Panther score came 3:01 after Vitale's score when senior William Bushell found classmate Kevin Kemp to give AU a two-goal lead. Dowling would answer back with a score from Redmond Killpack. The Golden Lions would end the quarter with four unaswered goals, with two coming from Kyle O'Brien.

The Panthers came out in the second quarter and shut out the Golden Lions, 3-0. Kemp added a goal and an assist, while Vitale and freshman Connor McCann also found the back of the net.

Dowling opened the third quarter with a score to tie the game at 6-6, when Kevin Sabo found John McClure for the goal. McCann would then add his second score the game, which was then followed by junior Mike Iorio finding Vitale for the score and a two-goal Panther lead.

The fourth quarter was all Dowling as the Golden Eagles shut out the Panthers, 3-0. O'Brien would add a goal and an assist in the period. With 10:30 left in regulation, O'Brien found Killpack for the game-winner.

For Dowling, O'Brien scored three goals and handed out three assists, while Kevin Sabo scored a goal to go along with two assists. Ryan Dougherty set aside 14 shots for the win.

For Adelphi, Kemp recorded three goals and added an assist, while Vitale had a hat-trick with three goals. Senior Zachary Bates recorded six saves in defeat.

The Panthers return to action on Saturday, March 20 when they travel to Syracuse, New York to take on #2 Le Moyne College at 3:00 pm.
