The Game Story:
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Junior Brian Cost (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) scored five goals and assisted on another to lead No. 1 Le Moyne past No. 6 Adelphi 17-5 in a non-conference men's lacrosse game at the Carrier Dome. The defending national champion Dolphins (1-0) have won 61 consecutive regular season games. Adelphi drops to 1-1 on the season.

Nine different Dolphins scored in the season-opener. In addition to Cost's career-high total, junior midfielder Alex Bily (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) scored three times, juniors Nick Gatto (Syracuse, N.Y./Henninger) and Andrew Carducci (Syracuse, N.Y./Henninger) netted two goals each and Mike McDonald (Latham, N.Y./Shaker), Brian Welch (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca), Brad Wolken (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Baldwinsville), Ed Street (Manlius, N.Y./CBA) and longstick Russ Oechsle (Homer, N.Y./Homer) tallied one each. McDonald, the Most Outstanding Player at the 2006 national championship, dished out five assists. Le Moyne converted 5-of-8 extra-man opportunities.

Le Moyne used a 12-2 burst over the final two quarters to score its 19th consecutive victory. Welch, Cost and Bily scored in the first quarter and Cost netted his second in to start the second quarter to give Le Moyne a 4-0 lead. Adelphi answered with three straight goals to trim its deficit to 4-3 before Wolken gave the Dolphins a 5-3 lead at the break.

Bily finished off a feed from Cost and Gatto scored a pair of goals in an 18-second span as the Dolphins opened the second half with three straight goals. Dale Pescitelli (Shoreham, N.Y./Shoreham Wading River) stopped Le Moyne's four-goal run with 10:35 remaining in the third quarter, but Cost, Carducci and McDonald scored to give Le Moyne a commanding 11-4 lead.

Le Moyne senior netminder Jared Corcoran (Concord, N.H./Concord) made six of his nine saves in the third quarter. He improved to 47-1 in his Le Moyne career. The Dolphins have limited nine straight opponents to five goals or less and 17 straight to less than 10 goals. Adelphi scored 10 goals in a 17-10 setback to the Dolphins in Garden City in last season's meeting on March 11, 2006.

Junior Andrew Ashkenazy (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) scored two goals to lead the Golden Panthers. He also won 13-of-15 faceoffs as Adelphi carried a 16-8 edge in that category.

The Dolphins travel to No. 3 Mercyhurst next Saturday for a 1 p.m. game.
