The Game Story:
Springfield, Mass. – Junior attackman Vinnie Alexander (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill/Onondaga C.C.) scored four goals and handed out an assist to lead the 2nd-ranked Le Moyne College men’s lacrosse team to a 17-6 win over American International on Monday afternoon at R.J. Abdow Field.

After the Yellow Jackets scored just 1:45 into the game on an unassisted goal by Dan MacIssac, the Dolphins scored five straight goals to take control of the game. Senior attackman Keith Vetter (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) scored the first goal just 33 seconds after MacIssac scored. Junior midfielder Matt Chadderdon (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) posted consecutive goals in a span of 2:05 to give Le Moyne the lead, the second of which was assisted by classmate Jack Venditti (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker). Junior attackman Jack Harmatuk (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy/Syracuse U.) finished off a feed from Venditti at the 4:38 mark for a 4-1 lead. Chadderdon capped the scoring outburst with 3:45 remaining in the first quarter off a pass from freshman Nate Frechette (Manlius, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy). Aaron McNab pulled AIC within 5-2 at the two-minute mark, but sophomore midfielder Mike Byrnes (Preble, N.Y./Tully) pushed the Le Moyne lead back to four goals off a pass from Alexander with 24 seconds to go in the stanza.

The Dolphins scored five straight goals in the second quarter to take an 11-2 lead into intermission. Harmatuk scored an extra-man goal off a pass from senior Mike Rabbitt (Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) 1:54 into the period. Just under five minutes later, Byrnes tallied an unassisted goal, while Rabbit followed with a goal off a pass from Chadderdon to give Le Moyne a 9-2 lead. Alexander (52 seconds) and Vetter (14 seconds) each recorded unassisted goals in the final minute to close out the scoring in the half.

The two teams each scored twice in the opening 8:44 of the third quarter before the Dolphins found the net three times in the final 4:12 of the period. The Yellow Jackets got goals from Mike Szawlowski and Brett Serriello with Alex Walter picking up an assist. Alexander scored Le Moyne’s first two goals in a span of 2:03 off passes from sophomore Sean Connors (Camillus, N.Y./Marcellus). Connors added two more assists in a stretch of 45 seconds on goals by senior Bob McIver (Altamont, N.Y./Guilderland/Binghamton U.) and Alexander. Frechette scored with seven seconds left in the quarter to give the Dolphins a 16-4 lead heading into the final quarter.

After McIver scored a man-up goal off a pass from sophomore John Albanese (East Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa), the Yellow Jackets scored the final two goals of the game. Serriello tallied off a feed from MacIssac at the 11:40 mark and James St. Cyr found the back of the net with 2:16 left.

Freshman goalkeeper Jeff White (Buffalo, N.Y./Canisius HS) made one save in the first half for the Dolphins, while sophomore Matt Krupka (Nedrow, N.Y./Onondaga) turned away two shots in the second half. Eric Whettell made 11 first-half saves for AIC, while Max Castleman registered four saves in the final 30 minutes.

Le Moyne (7-0, NE-10 4-0), which garnered 94 points to move within one point of #1 C.W. Post in the USILA Coaches Poll released earlier Monday afternoon, returns to action on Friday at Saint Michael’s at 1:00 p.m.
